CES Launches a New Major in Fall 2009 – Integrated Educational Studies |
|
|
The new IES major enables students to prepare for a wide range of teaching and leadership careers. Students choose from a generous array of interrelated curriculum options, designed to allow students to explore different interests within a prescribed four-year major. With courses such as “Learning Across Boundaries,” “Philosophy of Helping,” and “Self and Identity,” the major provides a solid foundation of scholarly inquiry, helping students make connections among disciplines. After sharing a series of core courses, students can select an emphasis in Teaching and Learning in the Schools which can lead to completion of a California teaching credential upon graduation. If traditional schools are not a student’s first choice, the Teaching and Learning in the Schools can help them prepare for careers in business, the human services, disability services, the arts and a wide range of other possibilities. Students in either emphasis might also choose to continue at CES to become counselors, school psychologists, or communication specialists. For any Chapman student who thinks of herself or himself as a “people person” or has envisioned working with and helping people, the new IES major is both an option and an opportunity. These graduates will not only “imagine the possibilities,” but with the help of the major, “explore the possibilities” toward a future when they will “live the possibilities.” |
